A developer and tester for UK businesses, working from India

The UK is the easiest international market to work with from India, and the reason is unglamorous: the clock. Nearly half of my working day sits inside yours, so this reads less like an offshore engagement than a remote colleague in a different city.

Working together

Hours, money, and the law

The three things that decide whether hiring across a border works.

Half my day is inside yours

India is 4.5 hours ahead of the UK during British Summer Time and 5.5 hours ahead in winter. My 2pm is your 9:30am; my 7pm is your 2:30pm. That is a genuine shared afternoon every working day — enough for a standup, a review and an unplanned call about something that broke, without either of us working unsociable hours. Of the markets on this site, the UK needs the least accommodation.

GBP invoices, and VAT you account for yourself

Invoices are issued in GBP, paid by bank transfer or Wise. Services supplied to a UK VAT-registered business by a supplier outside the UK are normally covered by the reverse charge, which means I do not add VAT and you account for it on your own return — usually neutral for you if you can recover it. If you are not VAT-registered, that treatment differs, so check with your accountant. Either way there is no Indian GST on an export of services.

UK GDPR is not optional, and it shapes the build

UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply to your users' data whoever writes the code, and the ICO's expectations are concrete: a lawful basis for what you collect, data minimisation, a retention period that is enforced rather than documented, and a working route for access and erasure requests. Builds for UK clients get that designed in — retention enforced by the database rather than a manual clean-up, cookies limited to what is strictly necessary unless consent is collected properly, and a privacy notice that describes what the code actually does. If personal data leaves the UK, the transfer route is written down.

Common briefs in United Kingdom

What clients here usually need

Trades, professional services and local SEO

UK small businesses live or die on local search. That means a fast site, correct LocalBusiness markup, and Google Business Profile treated as a first-class channel rather than an afterthought.

Internal tools and operations dashboards

Replacing the spreadsheet that runs the company. Quotes, jobs, stock, invoicing — the same category of system as the ERP work in the portfolio, sized for a UK SME.

Accessibility that stands up to scrutiny

Public-sector-adjacent work and larger UK buyers ask about WCAG. Keyboard paths, focus order, contrast and screen-reader output are tested with axe, not assumed.

Questions from UK clients

The ones that come up before a first call.

For a UK VAT-registered business, the reverse charge normally applies to services from a supplier outside the UK: the invoice carries no VAT and you account for it on your own return, recovering it in the same place if you are entitled to. If you are not VAT-registered the position is different. This is a general description rather than tax advice — your accountant should confirm it for your circumstances.

Yes, and without either side straining. My afternoon and evening overlap your morning and early afternoon, so anything from 9:30am to about 5:30pm UK time is straightforwardly reachable. Most UK clients settle into one short call a week plus written updates, because the overlap makes anything urgent easy to catch anyway.

By deciding it before the schema is written rather than after launch. What is collected, why, how long it is kept, and how someone gets it deleted are settled at the start, and the retention is enforced by the database itself so it cannot quietly stop happening. Analytics is first-party where possible, which avoids most of the consent problem entirely. Where a third-party service is genuinely needed, it goes in the privacy notice by name.

No. I work under your terms where you have them, and English law and jurisdiction are fine for engagements of this size. Where there is no template I provide a short agreement covering scope, milestones, IP assignment on payment and confidentiality, which most UK clients are happy to sign as-is or lightly amend.
